Campus Highlight: Beyond Barnard

As soon as you begin your Barnard journey, you have the opportunity to start thinking about what you do outside of campus and after graduation. From internships to graduate schools to career goals, Beyond Barnard is an office dedicated to helping students achieve success outside the classroom. They’ll help you with anything and everything related to jobs (on and off-campus), internships, graduate school, and fellowships. Here’s a few highlights on what they cover:

Jobs and Internships

Want to find a job during your college career and don’t know where to start? Beyond Barnard will help you find a job, prepare your resume, prep for an interview, and even lend you a suit if needed. Beyond Barnard’s Peer Career Advisors (PCAs) can work with you one-on-one during a scheduled appointment or during drop-in hours. PCAs are students who are trained to help you polish your resume and cover letter and prep for job interviews.

Beyond Barnard also hosts extensive job fairs once a semester where companies from all over the city come to Barnard to meet and network with students. Throughout the semester, Beyond Barnard hosts panels and events to introduce students to alumnae in different industries like fashion, non-profit, finance, and more. Beyond Barnard also has funding available for students to complete research and unpaid internships during the summer and academic year.

Graduate School

If you’re looking to add M.D., Ph.D., Esq. or more to the end of your last name, Beyond Barnard is also here for that. From pre-med and pre-law advising to assistance with grad school applications, Beyond Barnard is there to help you figure out what to do beyond Barnard (fun how that name works, right?). Beyond Barnard is also here to help with fellowships and post baccalaureate programs. They’ll work with you to find a career path that’s right for you and help you along every step of the way.

Combined Programs

Barnard offers many specialized and accelerated degree programs with the various graduate schools of Columbia University. Programs exist with the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia Law School, School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and the Harriman Institute. These programs offer special and/or early admission for Barnard students with a variety of degree programs offered. Beyond Barnard helps you prepare and apply to these programs and ensure that you’re meeting all the program requirements.

Beyond Barnard is there to help students from the moment they step on campus to long after they graduate. It isn’t just for current students, all alumnae are welcome to use the office as well! Whatever you’re looking to do outside of Barnard’s campus, Beyond Barnard is there for you every step of the way.
