Internship & Research Opportunities
Question: What research opportunities are offered at Barnard? What percentage of students have internships and research opportunities?
Answer: There are many research opportunities available to Barnard students. The Summer Research Institute (SRI) is a popular program here at Barnard, not only for STEM majors, but for students in arts/humanities and social sciences as well. For 10 weeks, Barnard students participating in the SRI have the opportunity to conduct new research with a faculty mentor on campus or elsewhere in New York City, supplemented by lectures and social events throughout the duration of the program. Students also often receive a stipend to conduct their research and at the Institute's conclusion, there is a poster presentation event.
A lot of students take on internships and/or research during the academic year or during the summer months. It's fairly simple to find internship opportunities through Beyond Barnard, which lists over 2,500+ opportunities. You can also find opportunities on your own; for example, I am interning with the Barnard Office of Admissions and I found this opening through my academic year work study.
